Dog Rescue Photography in Shropshire - Helping Local Shelters

Are You a Dog Rescue in Shropshire?

Giving Overlooked Dogs the Chance to Be Seen for Who They Really Are!

I fall in love with every dog I meet, but my heart beats a little faster for the ones waiting for a second chance: the overlooked, the shy, the seniors, and the long-stayers. Through Project Dog, I use my 15 years of professional photography experience (& 40+ years of being a dog lover!) to help dog rescues across Shropshire showcase these amazing dogs, completely free of charge.

Sometimes, all a dog needs to find their forever home is to be seen properly - not through kennel bars, but in a moment that reveals their true personality. That is what I aim to capture.

Why Professional Dog Photography Makes a Difference For Rescue Centres

Many dogs only ever have their "adoption profile" or social media photos taken in a metal kennel, in harsh lighting, or a stressful shelter environment.

These images rarely show a dog’s true self, making it difficult for potential adopters to imagine them as part of the family.

Professional photography changes the narrative. By capturing rescue dogs in a natural setting, we show them:

  • Exploring the outdoors and enjoying the fresh air

  • Playing with toys, showing their energy and spirit

  • Relaxing in the sunshine, highlighting their gentle side

  • Looking up lovingly at their carer

  • Being "just a dog" rather than a "rescue case.

  • Sniffing and exploring quiet Shropshire trails

  • Playing freely in safe outdoor spaces

  • Relaxing naturally, showing their calm, loyal side

That emotional connection is often the difference between a dog staying in a shelter and finally going home. When adopters connect emotionally with a dog through a photograph, they are far more likely to enquire.

Great images don’t just look beautiful - they genuinely help dogs find homes faster.

How Dog Rescue Photo Sessions Work

I work closely with rescue staff to ensure sessions are safe, calm, and entirely dog-focused:

  • Flexible Locations: I can work at the rescue centre in your secure field, join a volunteer on an enrichment walk, or you can meet me at one of the local beauty spots in Shropshire.

  • Safety First: Dogs stay on a lead at all times (which I edit out later). I just need one volunteer or handler present.

  • Patience: Every dog has a unique personality. I work entirely at their pace, respecting any anxieties, nerves or triggers.

  • Quick Turnaround: Edited images are delivered promptly so rescues can use them immediately for listings.

  • Handler Support: A volunteer or handler stays with the dog throughout the session.

  • I can photograph multiple dogs per visit, ensuring each one gets the attention they deserve, and you get the professional photographs you need as soon as possible!

I am happy to work with any rescue in the Shropshire, from larger organizations like Hilbrae Rescue and Dogs Trust in Shrewsbury to smaller, local volunteer-led shelters.

My Why: The Story of Rico

My passion for rescue is personal. My own dog, Rico, a six-year-old black Chow Chow, came to me after being smuggled in to the UK illegally from Bulgaria.

When he arrived at 15 weeks old, he was terrified of everything - people, noises, and the world outside.

Through patience, love, and plenty of walks in the beautiful Shropshire countryside, he grew into the most loyal, playful, and affectionate companion I could ever hope for - and he fit right in to our family of two children and our beautiful Beagle, Harper with ease.

Rico taught me how magical rescue dogs are.

He is definitely a 'Mummy's Boy!' and even when off adventuring on walks (finding squirrels is his favourite thing to do - but we know he'll never be quick enough to catch one!) he won't go far unless he knows I'm there with him!

Chow Chows choose 'their person' to protect and while that person is me, my husband is definitely is playmate!

Knowing how many dogs are waiting in Telford, Shrewsbury, across our beautiful county and beyond, I want to use my camera to give them the best chance of finally being seen for who they truly are.
